TEACHING TURKISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE AND TRANSLANGUAGING

ABSTRACT

With globalization, the view that the target language should be dominant in foreign language teaching classes and that students’s mother tongue is not included as much as possible has also become questionable. Today the understanding that the mother tongue and culture of the students in foreign language classes cannot be ignored and that the language experiences of the students can be used as an auxiliary element in the language teaching process, not as an obstacle is discussed. At this point, translanguaging came to the fore and the opinion that students can use all the languages in their repertoire according to their needs has emerged. According to translanguaging, if multilingual applications are made prevalent in language learning classes, the rhetorical effects of the texts produced by the students will enrich the education process. It is possible to enrich the education process with including translingual writing in teaching Turkish as a foreign language classes.
