The research paper shows the importance of English as a Foreign Language integrated in the
curriculum of South East European University. After finishing the Basic English levels, students
continue with English for Specific Purposes courses. All faculties within the university have their
respective ESP course. The paper emphasizes the design of the course of English for Specific
Purposes to students at Political Sciences and International Relations department within the Faculty
of Contemporary Social Sciences. In order to prepare students begin their professional career path
in government, ministries, state and local government agencies, municipalities, public institutions,
political parties and non-profit organizations, faculty staff teaching professional subjects and
students were conducted for target vocabulary of the course. The students were interviewed on their
preference on skills and the results showed that speaking skills and debates would be more
beneficial for their future career. In the scope and sequence of English for Specific Purposes 1 and
2 were included the goals of the course, objectives, topics, assignments, materials and target
vocabulary. Based on the topics the materials for the courses were selected and Course Readers
were prepared for the students. Most of the materials were found online on internet. Moreover,
various English books and English version web sites of the Government in the Republic of North
Macedonia and the Ministries were used to create authentic materials for students.

Vocabulary has the central role in foreign language learning. As an area of research it has been
neglected until recently when many researchers focused their studies on investigating vocabulary
acquisition and different strategies that learners use to learn new words of English. One of the
most challenging word groups to be taught are compounds. Since there are so many compound
words in English, learners may not often recognise them as being compounds. Therefore, teachers
should offer variety of techniques and activities in teaching them to the students.
The paper aims at scrutinizing EFL teachers’ perception of teaching English compounds at tertiary
level. It uses Schmitt’s taxonomy (1997) of vocabulary learning which consists two parts:
strategies for discovering the meaning of new words and strategies for consolidating new words.
The teachers were asked to list VLS in terms of their frequency and effectiveness.
This study showed the parallel between the strategies used to learn compounds and their usefulness
as perceived by the teachers. The main methodological implication is that the choice of the
strategies has learning vocabulary. The strategies should be one of the most impotent components
of a course syllabus which will facilitate vocabulary acquisition.

Much of the world changed with the outbreak of the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic and education was
no exception. The transition from the traditional classroom and model of learning to the online
one was a challenge for both students and teachers, at all levels of education. The survey we
conducted aimed at answering two research questions, the first one investigating the main
problems with online learning from the students’ perspective, and the second was trying to get
feedback from the students on how some of these issues (and which) might have been/be overcome
with the help of the professors and the university as a whole. The research also presents a
comparative study between two universities from two different countries – International Balkan
University from Skopje (North Macedonia) and Gazi University from Ankara (Turkey). An online
questionnaire was administered to undergraduate and postgraduate students at these universities,
and the results were surprising in the fact that all students, regardless of location or age, had exactly
the same problems. Suggestions on overcoming the problems varied, but conclusions could be
made to address and tackle the difficulties for the upcoming semester/s of online learning.

Published in 1847, Emily Bronte’s novel Wuthering Heights has been a subject of various
interpretations and criticisms. However, in the abundance of analyses, one can notice that there is
universal consent that the novel is a powerful and unique work of art. It can be established that the
novel was written ahead of its time. It has to be emphasized that through the characters and their
intertwined stories, the novel presents an exceptional description of human nature and emotions
which are almost superhuman in strength and capacity. Above all, the novel Wuthering Heights
presents unconventional perceptions on the issues of class and social status, their impact on
relationships and marriage, as well as gender roles. The following article addresses and attempts
to analyze the issues related to rebellion against social norms and conventions customary for the
time the novel was written. Of course, Wuthering Heights is by no means a typical Victorian novel,
written by a woman writer in the 19th century. In fact, the novel itself cannot be placed in any
category which would completely describe it or evaluate it. It has to be analyzed as a masterpiece
which is unique in structure, themes and intensity and which does not fit any of the rules or literary
conventions.

Cevat Şakir, the pioneer
of the movement, wrote many articles to show the richness of Anatolian culture and civilization.
